Ekushey Kobita

A dark February evening saw Network Bangla members gather at the Community Centre of Ekushey Kobita's sponsor London Tigers to listen to carefully constructed rhythmic words by budding poets.
Sat on the floor amongst cushions and snacking on the refreshments provided, the guests were introduced to the poetry night by host Sulthana explaining the significance of Ekushey February both in the Bangladesh calendar and the worldwide calendar. For 21 February is recognised as International Mother Language Day. The video played at the event gave guests an insight into the significance of the day.
The poems read ranged from heartfelt matters about identity, love and faith to lighthearted thoughts of public transport and parking fines - the latter a hilarious song by Syed Ansar and Yamin Chowdhury of the band Khansar (see below).
